We released our first album, Lonely at the Bottom, in February 2006, and we're pleased to see the enthusiastic response from our growing fanbase. This is our first album and it includes some of the first songs we ever wrote together. We wrote and performed our songs acoustically but always invisioned fronting a full band. Collaborating with Kevin Willoughby and Steve Miller as our rythm section has allowed us to realize that vision. Kevin and Steve brought their own rythmic interpretations of our melodies, and the music has evolved into the sound we have today.

Our songs involve a lot of harmonizing and rounds, and have a straight-forward pop feel that is often complicated by atypical, sometimes troubled lyrics. We're influenced primarily by the Beach Boys and Weezer and we love U2, Blur, the Shins, Elvis Costello, David Bowie, etc., but we wouldn't claim that our music sounds like any of the them. We just write songs as they come and find that they have a very natural flow and cadence.

The name "You Guys Are Girls" is tongue-in-cheek. When we played shows acoustically, we would occasionally get requests along the lines of "You guys are girls, so you must know some songs by (insert popular female songstress here)." So we thought we'd beat them to the punch next time. Our band name says, "Hello. Yes, we're girls. Now that we have that established, we'd like to play some songs for you." We feel the fact that we're girls should be irrelevant, not impressive. Hopefully the music will impress and people will enjoy what we do, because we love playing it.
